There’s a lot your gut can say on an average day. It can gargle to let you know it’s busy with digestion, and it can rumble to let you know you really need a snack right now!
It can also ache and churn and cramp up, and if you’re currently going through a certain week of your menstrual cycle, it’s like hell in there!
But sometimes your gut has a real message for you. Indeed, there are a couple of very specific things it could be pointing out to you right now; let’s see if we can figure them out.
Something Going on isn’t Quite Right
Often known as the trusty ol’ ‘gut feeling’, sometimes your gut will send some pretty physical (and uncomfortable!) signals letting you know that something is off about the situation you’re in.
Whether this happens at work, when you’re meeting someone for the first time, or when you’re in the middle of a crowd, be sure to listen. After all, the gut is often nicknamed the ‘second brain’, and it picks up on a lot. If your actual brain is picking up on an off vibe and it’s not quite hit you yet, your gut is likely to chime in and make you pay attention!
Of course, if you’re someone prone to anxiety, these kinds of gut feelings might happen 24/7. If this is the case, it’s important to build a bank of self knowledge so you can pick the real signals from the anxious ones. It’s important not to let your gut treat every opportunity as something to worry about.
It Needs Rebalancing
The human gut is a wonderland of bacteria. Nine times out of ten, this bacteria is essential to keeping your digestion working at the optimum speed and efficiency. But sometimes, you can run low on the good stuff, which can lead to a lot of discomfort and even a few issues with using the toilet.
Everyone goes through an issue like this at some point in their life, and it’s not usually anything to really worry about. However, if you are genuinely concerned about your gut and how it’s behaving, you’ll want to see a doctor before you do anything else. Getting your health checked out to ensure there’s nothing more serious going on is always the first step.
But if you’ve got a clean bill of health and your gut seems to be throwing these troubles your way anyway, it might just be trying to tell you that it needs some rebalancing! You can do this by eating more clean plant based protein in your meals, as well as adding sources of probiotics to your diet. Try this for a week or two and see how different your gut feels.
Got some weird gut feelings going on? Then your gut is trying to let you know something that’ll help you. Make sure you listen out for it when it’s trying to speak and take action.
