What is a business? A business is simply coming up with an idea that will make other people’s lives better. If you have such an idea then you should ‘Pitch to Rich.’
So says Richard Branson about Pitch to Rich, the business competition which is set to hand out over £1 million to support the UK’s best business ideas.
Walking Mums is pitching to win
Jagoda Keshani has decided to try her luck in the New Thing category of the competition. Jay, as she’s known to her friends, came up with an idea of creating a social network for parents of pre-school children age just after her son Daniel was born in June 2014. Walking Mums quickly gained popularity. 30 walks later it has almost 1000 members, who have made friends, discovered new places and even lost weight! Having outgrown its base on Facebook the organisation has moved to www.walkingmums.com, which is currently being tested.
Winning ‘Pitch to Rich’ will enable the idea to reach many more parents and help address more parenthood issues. The money would be spent on improving the website and creating a smartphone app to provide travel tips, family walk ideas and descriptions of popular places such as parks, gardens, museums, galleries and other attractions outlining their facilities to meet newborn and toddler needs (e.g. changing and breast feeding areas, indoor and outdoor playgrounds, children’s menus, highchair availability and maximum pushchair allowances).
At the moment, Jay is working on completing the 126km Capital Ring walk, a marked path around London which was created in 2005 and divided into 15 sections. It is currently her mission to achieve this before her son first birthday. The detailed pushchair accessibility of the route and additional information required to follow the path with a baby in a pram will soon be published on the website.
On Saturday the 2nd of May, Jay along with her husband, son and father will lead a walk for families with young children as a part of the Jane’s Walk event. It will start at 10am at Green Park Underground Station and follow The Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Walk, finishing with a family picnic in Kensington Gardens. The aim is to show London’s accessibility and promote travel with a pushchair. Everyone is welcome and there is no need to book your place.
To get to the second round of ‘Pitch to Rich’ Walking Mums needs to collect enough votes to ensure a position in the first fifty highest voted projects. If you would like to view Jay’s pitch or vote please click here to check it out.
